Brett Ball was published in 1981
by the designer-publisher Raymond
Keltner, MD. Brett Ball was created by
a Kansas City obstetrician and
gynecologist, Dr. Raymond Keltner, with
technical assistance by Brett. The game
puts the players in major-league
managers' shoes, allowing them to
devise strategy and capitalize on each
player's strengths. The game is
designed to be played two or four
persons over 10 years old and usually
lasts about an hour. Pitching and
hitting is accomplished by rolling of
dice, with the odds of the dice used to
duplicate the statistics of baseball.
The usual rules of baseball apply.
The game is played by two or four players who roll dice for pitches and
batting. The rolled determines whether
number the pitch is a ball or a strike,
and the batter's roll determines a hit,
error or out. Runners move around the
bases or return to the dugout, until
the final out in the ninth inning. More
advanced players will have such options
as 'sacrifices, bunts, hit-and-run
plays, designated hitters, pinch
hitters or runners, a pulled-in
infield, or a pitchout to foil base
runners. Winning depends on the right
strategy and luck of the dice.
